The 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event attracted 897 players for Day 1a and a total of 985 players took their seats on Day 1b. These numbers are less than last year’s but no doubt there will be larger participation in the remaining two starting days.

Among the players who sat down at the tables on Day 1b were Team Titan’s Sam Trickett and Marvin Rettenmaier.

Place: Rio Hotel – Amazon Poker Room
Levels: 2 hours each
Starting Stack: 30 000 chips

Level 1- Blinds 50/100

Marvin Rettenmaier and Sam Trickett arrived at the middle of the first level of the day.  Marvin joined French player and runner-up of the WPT Marrakech Guillaume Cescut at his table.

Marvin Rettenmaier bet 300 in middle position and the big blind called.

Flop: K♦ 9♥ 4♠ and Marvin made a continuation bet of 425, which was called by his opponent.

On the turn J♥, Marvin bet 1,050 and it is another call.

Finally on the river Q♥, our German member of Team Titan fired a third barrel for 3,000 chips and his opponent mucked his cards when he saw the pocket 4s of Marvin for a flopped set.

Good start for Marvin Rettenmaier who climbed to 35K after half an hour.

At the end of the level and thanks to an aggressive game, Marvin was up to 38K.

During this time, Sam Trickett was a bit quieter at his table alongside Kevin Vandersmissen, the runner-up of EPT Snowfest who won €260,000. Sam finished the first level with 28.2K.

Marvin Rettenmaier ended this second level with a little bit more than 61K after losing a few small pots.

Level 3 – Blinds 150/300

Sam Trickett didn’t succeed in increasing his stack. He was down to 20K and then slowly slided down to 14K and even less. But just after the dinner break, the English player won a huge pot and went to his 90 minutes-break with 28K.

A player in middle position raised to 800 and Sam 3-bet to 2,400 in the small blind. His opponent made the call.

On the flop: 9♦ 10♦ 2♣, Trickett bet 1,600 and his adversary moved all-in. Sam Trickett made the call and we saw the cards.

Sam Tricket: A♥ A♦

Sam was ready to leave the tournament when he saw the insignificant 5 of club coming on the turn but the river brought one of the two As left in the deck saving him miraculously.

Marvin Rettenmaier bet 725 in middle position and his immediate aggressive neighbor called. The button paid too.

Flop: J♣ 6♣ 3♣

On the turn Q♦, Marvin check-raised to 4,625 his opponent’s bet of 1,675.

Marvin turned A♣ 8♣ for the nuts and his opponent mucked his cards.

He went to the break with a confortable stack of 74K.

End Level 4 – Blinds 150/300 ante 25 and Level 5 (200/400)

His opponent showed 5-6 for a failed draw. Sam’s queen was enough and the English pro was up to 40K.

Less than one hour later, Sam Trickett went all-in on a flop 10♠ 7♠ 8♦
He held pocket jacks and was facing A♠ Q♠

The turn was the J♥ bringing  him the top set but the river came the 4♠ and his oppponent hit the nut flush and Sam Trickett was back to a frustrating 23K.
