French poker player Bertrand Grospellier, better known in the industry by his nickname “ElkY”, survived a grueling four-hour heads-up battle with Steve Landfish to win the World Series of Poker Event #21: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship.

The victory, Grospellier’s first WSOP bracelet, awarded him with first prize of $331,639. For his second place finish, Landfish won $204,924. Former Team Titan captain Sorel Mizzi finished in 11th place in the event and won $27,643.

By winning the bracelet, Grospellier became a Poker Triple Crown winner. In January 2008, he finished in 1st place at the European Poker Tour’s (EPT) PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure winning $2,000,000. In October 2008, he won the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) Festa al Lago tournament for a prize of $1,411,015.

A total of 126 players entered the $10,000 Seven Card Stud event, creating a prizepool of $1,184,400. Landfish went into the third and final day of the event as the chipleader. The heads-up battle was topsy-turvy, with the lead changing several times. At one time Landfish had a 24:1 advantage in chips, but Grospellier stormed back to win the title.

Finishing in tenth place in the event was Men “The Master” Nguyen, who won it last year. For his tenth place finish, Nguyen won $32,488.
