Young Team Titan player Marvin Rettenmaier put in a stellar performance at the Poker Open Marrakech XVI, bringing home prize money totaling €58,175 .
Victory came particularly close for the German, but unfortunately it was not his day and he did not manage to win.
He was finally defeated after an amazing four hour heads-up against the “unbeatable” French player Anthony Picault who took the title and the €85,878 prize purse as the main event winner.
Marvin Rettenmaier eliminated the 4th and 3rd players before starting the heads-up with a huge advantage in chips (950K against 380K) and an obvious technical edge over his French opponent.
But it was not enough against the luck of Picault. Twice, the Frenchman was on the way to losing the tournament, but each time was miraculously saved.
The first time, Picault went all-in preflop and Rettenmaier quickly called with J♠J♣. The French player showed A♠2♠ but right away the dealer delivered the perfect flop for him: 4♣5♥2♦
The second time, Rettenmaier raised preflop which resulted in another all-in from Picault. Rettenamaier made the call.
Rettenmaier: A♠10♣
Picault: 7♥5♠
Huge advantage for the Team Titan player who certainly believed that this could be the end. But no…. A miraculous flop for the French with 7♠7♣5♥.
Picault finally won a last coin flip to take the trophy. Once more Marvin Rettemaier was a bit in front with 66 vs. AQ but an A came directly on the flop.
