Online Poker

Since I don’t reside in the United States, the apparent inability of that country’s federal government to come up with a sensible approach to online poker doesn’t impact me very much, at least not directly.  For example, I’m able to play on Titan Poker.  But the situation there does annoy me.

What irritates me most is the way certain politicians put their personal agendas ahead of giving millions of their constituents what they clearly want, a legalized, properly regulated online poker environment with safeguards in place to protect their money.  If doing this would harm others, I could see an argument to the contrary.  But in what meaningful way would anyone who isn’t interested in playing be negatively affected or even put at risk?

I can’t come up with any answers that even begin to make sense.  In addition, regulation would create a new source of revenue.  So, the players’ funds would be safe from the clutches of unscrupulous operators, non-players wouldn’t be affected, and the US government would actually make some money?  Where’s the problem?

It gets even more ridiculous when I see some states getting into the act by making it a criminal offence for their residents to play online poker while as the very same time, others are looking into legalizing it within their own borders.  Of course, if those same people decide to head on over to a nearby brick and mortar casino for a few hands.  And what if it happens to be in the next state?  It would seem crossing that border is only a crime if done in cyberspace.

I could go on, but I’d probably just become even more annoyed.  Since I have a couple of tournaments to play, that doesn’t seem like a good idea.

And just to be crystal clear, the opinions I’ve expressed are mine.  I am not affiliated with Titan in any way except for volunteering to write this blog.
