Team Titan’s Sam Trickett pocketed $2.8 million at two High Roller events at this year’s Aussie Millions. He had six cashes in last year’s World Series of Poker. He is considered not only the hottest poker property in the United Kingdom, but one of the rising stars of the poker world.

But this wasn’t always so. In the cover story of the April edition of PokerPlayer, the biggest-selling and most-established poker magazine in the United Kingdom, we rewind back to 2008, when Trickett was broke. As per the magazine, Trickett was on “life-tilt for six months” and “penniless”.

“I never want to be in that position again,” Trickett told the magazine.

What helped Trickett turn around and become the rising poker star he is today?

As per the magazine, “Step forward soon-to-be 2010 WSOPE winner James Bord. The portly Londoner had taken a keen interest in Trickett and sought his involvement early last year on the Poker Farm, Bord’s successful poker training and staking business based in sunny Cape Town. The duo struck up a deal.”

“‘I was offered a fee up front and staking in every WSOP event going, splitting the profit 50/50, and I thought, I’ve got nothing to lose,’” Trickett said, as reported in the magazine.

When Trickett was unleashed on the WSOP 2010 tables, he cashed out six times, including a second place finish in the $5,000 NLHE event. The EPT Vilamoura final table, the World Poker Open title, and the high stakes cash games in Macau were all to follow, ahead of Sam’s amazing results in the Aussie Millions.

The PokerPlayer article includes an in-depth interview with Trickett on a variety of topics and information about how he turned to his family when he became “addicted” to poker, before his fortunes turned around.

Today, Trickett is on the top of the poker world. The magazine article concludes with this quote from Trickett: “I can play any game I want. I’d sit in any game in the world right now and feel like I have an edge.”
