The Italian Adventure of Desgouttes and Rettenmaier

Team Titan members Florian Desgouttes and Marvin Rettenmaier joined the action of the World Poker Tour Venice 2011 tournament on Day 1B. The Main Event tournament is a €3,300 buy-in event, and 305 players took their seats in the different poker rooms of the Casino Di Venezia for Day 1B. Yesterday, they were 218 players who competed in Day 1A.

With a total of 523 players registered in the tournament, WPT Venice 2011 has become the second biggest WPT tournament ever organized in Europe after Amneville last November.


Here’s a report of the Day 1B action at the World Poker Tour Venice 2011 for Florian Desgouttes and Marvin Rettenmaier.

Level 1 – 50/100

Florian Desgouttes raised to 250 in middle position and got paid by the small and big blinds.

Flop 9♦ 7♥ 8♣
The small blind opened to 500 and his neighboor folded quickly. Florian paid.

On the turn 8d, both players checked.

The river came Q♣ and the small blind bet 1500, called by the French player from Team Titan.

Showdown:

32K for Florian Desgouttes after 20 minutes. A good start at a good table.

Marvin Rettenmaier called a raise in small blind position from Emilio Bono (at the button) with J♠8♦

Flop 10♠10♣8♠
The Italian runner-up at EPT Prague opened to 425 and Marvin made the call.

Turn 4♦
Bono bet 1100 and the German player of Team Titan paid.

Finally on the river, the 3♠ the Italian fired a third barrel for 2.1K. Call from Marvin who won the pot after the showdown.

Rettenmaier at 34K.

A few hands later the same Italian raised UTG +1 to 400. In the next seat, Marvin called.

Flop K♥ 9♣ 6♦
Check-check.

Turn 10♦ and Bono opened to 500 and Marvin flat-called.

On the river, 7♦
Bono checked, Marvin bet 1325 and Bono folded face-up AJo. Marvin took the pot and showed a Jack to his opponent.

At the end of Level 1, Marvin has 36K and Florian 30.5K.

Level 2 – Blinds 75/150

3 players limped and Florian raised to 750 with A♠ J♦ in small blind. Two players decided to call.

Flop 7-7-4
Florian Desgouttes bet 1250 and the player at the button called.

On the turn, 5♣, Florian continued his aggression, betting 2150  but his opponent called another time.

Both player checked on the river 9♥ and his adversary won the pot with 5-6.

Florian is down to 23.5 K.

A few hands before the first break of the day, after 2 hours of playing, Florian Desgouttes doubled-up.

A player in early position raised to 500 and 4 players made the call untill the French player of Team Titan in small blind who discovered pocket kings and reraised to 2.5K. The button player made the call.

Florian Desgouttes threw 3.5 K in front of him and got paid by his opponent.

Turn 6♦
Florian Desgouttes went all-in and heard “call” from the button player who showed pocket Nines.

The river is an As and Florian Desgouttes is up to 48K. The average is: 30.6K.

Level 3 – 100/200

From 48K to 42K: Florian Desgouttes saw some flops and but didn’t connect.

The player UTG +1 raised to 600. The cut-off called and Florian Desgouttes re-raised to 2200 with A♥ Q♣. Call from the player UTG +1.

Flop: K♦ 10♥ 5♠
Florian Desgouttes check-raised to 4500 the bet of 1200 of his opponent.

Turn: J♣ and Florian checked and his opponent announced all-in. Florian Desgouttes quickly paid. UTG +1 player showed KJ and Florian Desgouttes took the pot with the straight and is up to 63K.

Marvin Rettenmaier had 32K at the end of the level.

Level 4 – 150/300

Marvin Rettenmaier lost a few small pots and was down to 28K. Then he won the next two hands.

First, the player UTG +1 limped and Marvin raised in cut-off position to 925. The limper made the call.

Flop: A♦ 4♠ 3♥
Donk bet from the UTG +1 player to 1.5K and call from Rettenmaier.

Turn: 9♠
UTG +1 bet 3K and our Team Titan player paid.

Both players checked on the river, the 2♦.

Marvin Rettenmaier showed A♣8♣ and won the pot thanks to his better kicker (A7 to his opponent).

Then the player UTG raised to 750 and Marvin Rettenmaier next to him paid to see the flop K♠ 9♠ 2♣

The UTG player bet 1 K and Marvin called.

Same action for 2.2K on the turn 3♣

River: Q♠
Check-check.

Showdown:
Marvin Rettenmaier: K♣J♣
UTG player: K♦8♦

Martin Rettenmaier is up to 44K at the break. Florian Desgouttes won a few pots pre-flop three-betting to maintain his stack at 62K.

Level 5 – 150/300, Ante 25

Marvin Rettenmaier in small blind called the raise of 725 of Italian player Riccardo Lacchinelli (at the button).

Flop: 3♣ J♣ 7♦
Marvin Rettenmaier bet 825 and got called.

On the turn, 6♣ Marvin sent a second barrel for 1550 and saw his opponent call.

River A♣  
Marvin Rettenmaier did the same bet as at the turn and when Lacchinelli paid, Marvin Rettenmaier directly mucked his hand.

The German player from Team Titan gave up a few hands preflop after his opponents had 3-bet or 4-bet him and was down to 24K at the end of the level.

During this time, Florian Desgouttes tried to play more hands in order to be really confortable. But he found a lot of resistance in his way and had to give up a few pots and around 20K to fall down to 44K.

227 players are left with an average chipstack of 40K.

Level 6 – 200/400, Ante 50

At the very beginning of the level, Marvin succeeded in doubling-up. He raised to 925 in middle position and was raised by the player in cut-off position. Marvin decided to pay.

Flop: J♣ 8♥ 4♦
Check from Marvin Rettenmaier. Bet 6.8K from the CO and All-in from the German player for an additional 11,250 chips. After a long hesitation his adversary called and showed Q♠ Q♣. Marvin Rettenmaier is behind with K♥Q♥ .

But luck was on his side when Rettenmaier hit the nut flush runner-runner. Turn 10♥ and river A♥.

Marvin Rettenmaier is up to 50K.

In the middle of the level, the UTG player limped and an Italian player raised to 1200 in middle position. Marvin made the call from the big blind with J♥10♦

A wonderfull flop came for the German player: 9-8-7 rainbow. Everybody checked.

Turn: 4
Check from Marvin, 3K bet from the pre-flop limper and fold from the middle position player. Marvin took his time and raised to 8.6K. His only opponent paid the difference.

River: 6
Marvin Rettenmaier fired a 14.6 K and his opponent quickly called with 5-6 for an inferior straight. Marvin is up to 78K.

Level 8 – 400/800 ante 75

Florian Desgouttes was really quiet during the last two hours, just maintaining his stack at around 45K without playing significant hands. And then he played the next hand.

From hijack position, Florian raised to 2400 and get paid by the cut-off Italian player.

Flop: 4♦ 3♦ K♠
Florian openen to 2600 and it is a call from his neighboor.

On the turn 7♦ Florian bet 10K and his opponent paid.

Same action on the river 8♦ for 15K. The Italian player was really embarrassed with this last bet from the French pro but finally decided to call, not really happily. Florian showed a bluff with J-10 offsuit and the Italian showed K♠J♥ saying “Sorry man”. Really hard situation for Florian Desgouttes who is down to 14K.

The average is 54,790 with 167 players left. Marvin raised three times the big blind in UTG +1 position. The only player interested was the big blind who paid.

Flop 10♣ 3♥ 6♦ Marvin called the 2.4K bet of his opponent on this flop and did the same for 4125 on the turn, the 4♣. Both player checked the river, the 2♣ and Marvin Rettenmaier won the pot with A♦Q♥ against 9♣8♠ to his opponent. Nice call. Marvin is up to 108K.

Finally at the end of the level, Florian is eliminated. The UTG +2 player raised to 2200 and Florian called in small blind with A♦10♥

A♦ 2♠ K♥ came on the flop and both players checked.

Turn: 6♣
Florian checked, bet 2.2K from UTG +2, Florian Rettenmaier bet 6.5K and heard his opponent announcing “All-in”.
Florian called and discovered the winning AK of his adversary and was eliminated.

We will meet Florian Desgouttes next in Paris for the WPT Paris from the 9th of February to the 15th.

Marvin Rettenmaier played one more level and finished the day with 101.5 K when the average chipstack is 77,542 and 118 players have survived Day 1B. Marvin Rettenmaier advances to day 2.
