Team Titan’s Marvin Rettenmaier put in a great performance, reaching the final table of the $ 1,500 NL Holdem where more than 2,500 players participated.
Rettenmaier was the only European present at the final table, who in addition to himself (a German) was composed of seven American players, and one from New Zealand.
He was eliminated in 7th place by David Randal.
Rettenmaier’s last hand:
Marvin set his remaining 12 blinds pre-flop with 7c6c but it is was quickly paid by David Randal who held AdJs.
Board: 7♥ 8♥ 9♦
Turn: 3♦
The river J♠ was cruel to Rettenmaier in the end.
Nevertheless, his performance was impressive ($78,861) and hopefully predicts further good results during the WSOP.
In the end, Simon Watt won the bracelet and the $ 614,248.
Along the way, he faced the legend of cash games (high-stakes), Tom “durrrr” Dwan. The presence in HU of the young American phenomenon was the final attraction of this tournament. Indeed, a huge side bet between “durrrr” and his “friends” drew almost as much attention as the game itself.
The bet: Tom Dwan bet at 3/1 odds against several rivals that he would succeed and win a bracelet at the WSOP 2010.
If he reaches his goal, Dwan will be several million dollars richer. Last night, of course, he came so close… but failed in the last step.
Annoying, for sure ! But Dwan is not going to give up, you can be sure of that.
